GULFSTREAM GOODWILL INDUSTRIES Gulfstream Goodwill Industries Inc. (GGI) is one of 156 independent Goodwill affiliates in North America. It is an independent 501c3 that operates across a five-county region. It was founded when former Mayor of West Palm Beach, Ham Anthony, made the decision in 1966 to establish a Goodwill enterprise in Palm Beach County. Mr. Anthony did so by bringing together local business leaders who shared his vision and then created the first board of directors made up of some of the most prominent local business leaders.
Growing from two small retail thrift stores, a few dated donated trucks, and the persistence to succeed, the first rehabilitation facility was opened in 1968. Now, more than 55 years later, with over 900 employees, GGI operates the largest health, human and social services non-profit in Palm Beach and along the Treasure Coast. Some of the many services and programs critical to those we serve are assisting people with disabilities through training, education, and job placement, operating and managing the Senator Philip D. Lewis Homeless Resource Center, operation of the Gulfstream Goodwill Transition to Life Academy Charter High School, Adult Day Training programs, non-violent offender re-entry services and programs for adults and youth. In addition, Gulfstream Goodwill operates four homeless resource centers/shelters and many residential transitional housing facilities. Affordable transitional housing is one of the greatest needs for those who are transitioning from homelessness and with disabilities in our area, so our efforts are highly focused on increasing affordable housing in our area.
GGI’s mission is funded through the operation of 28 retail thrift stores and 24 separate donation drop-off centers throughout its five-county jurisdiction. We are very focused on innovation in the areas of e-Commerce, technology and sustainability. We put a great deal of emphasis on textile recycling, computer recycling, refurbishing, and resale. Combined, these operations offer significant support for all our services and support facilities.

Position Overview With recent increases to minimum wage, an expectation of further significant increases over the next five years, and retail sales serving as the foundation to its business model, GGI is seeking to develop a new organizational revenue steam to support its ongoing growth. As such, it is recruiting a Vice President of Philanthropic Development to develop, direct, and administer all development functions within the organization. Reporting into the President and Chief Executive Officer and serving as a member of the executive leadership team, the Vice President of Philanthropic Development will play a key role in setting organization-wide strategic philanthropy priorities and processes across GGI. Additionally, the Vice President of Philanthropic Development will craft, and subsequently manage, all relevant fundraising operations, engage extensively with both internal and external stakeholders, and be responsible for leveraging those relationships to achieve Gulfstream Goodwill’s fundraising goals and objectives with donors.
Key responsibilities include the following:
Develop and execute GGI’s philanthropic fundraising strategy. In partnership with the Executive Leadership Team, set and achieve fundraising revenue and activity goals.
Partner with the Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Marketing and Communication to develop and implement new programs to attract and engage individual, foundation, and corporate donors.
Ensure the formulation and subsequent growth of GGI’s major gifts program, to include identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual prospects. Engage the CEO, senior staff, and Board members in cultivating and closing gifts, as appropriate. Manage and resource the President & Chief Executive Officer’s portfolio of donors.
Lead GGI’s planning, creation, and execution of capital campaigns.
Serve as an ambassador and key spokesperson for GGI, building strong internal/external relationships that promote GGI’s mission to potential donors, community leaders, and local and state legislature.
Rigorously conduct and analyze strategic prospect research. Oversee the implementation and continued maintenance of an up-to-date donor tracking system.
Gather fundraising data on performance metrics and other measures of success; prepare statistical analyses and reports related to fundraising efforts and donor engagement.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of current issues as they relate to GGI’s programs and services (including workforce development, housing, etc.) to effectively steward current major donors, advance mid-level donors into major donor status, and identify and convert prospects into donors.
Actively engage the Board of Directors in fundraising efforts and ensure that individual members are supported in carrying out their roles as fundraisers. Develop and present updates to the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors, and other key volunteer committees related to the success of the Philanthropic Development function.
Ensure ongoing fundraising excellence in line with GGI’s values, mission, vision, and plans.
Serve as part of the Executive Leadership Team of GGI, contributing to organizational vision, strategy, and culture of philanthropy.
Professional Experience/Qualifications The ideal Vice President of Philanthropic Development candidate will be an accomplished fundraising executive with proven major gift fundraising experience and success, preferred experience and/or knowledge across the focus areas of GGI, and a passion for Goodwill’s vision and mission. They will have the strategic vision and expertise to effectively build and operationalize the philanthropic development function within GGI. This individual will be expected cultivate, solicit, acquire, and steward prospective donors across a variety of revenue generating methods and build alliances and trust across GGI, with key community organizations, with city, county, and state governments, and other key constituents.
The person hired for this role should be a charismatic and effective communicator able to clearly articulate GGI’s message while inspiring and earning the respect of their internal and external stakeholders. Must have the ability to identify opportunities for innovation and be able to implement changes successfully and expeditiously across an organization while demonstrating strong business acumen, confidence, poise, and executive presence. Ideally this person will be able to serve as a catalyst for positive change within GGI.
Successful candidates will have the following professional qualifications:
A minimum of five years’ demonstrated experience successfully fundraising at an executive level, with a minimum of 10 years’ overall fundraising experience, for a business or organization that secure support from a wide range of donors, including experience raising five-and six-figure gits from individuals.
Demonstrated knowledge on strategic development plan construction and implementation with proven ability to design strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donor prospects via annual & planned giving, direct mail, online giving, major gifts, leadership gifts, principal gifts, capital campaigns, and legacy giving levels.
Experience building, implementing, and scaling a development/revenue generating function preferred.
Preference for fundraising experience in the areas of workforce development, housing, poverty alleviation or related areas.
A proven track record of operating in accordance with the highest ethical standards and demonstrating outstanding relationship management ability and sensitivity to donor needs.
Proven technical experience working with a CRM and related technology such as Raiser’s Edge NXT, Virtuous and ResearchPoint as well as a proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability and willingness to travel in the surrounding region.
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field of study required.
Advanced degree and/or CFRE certification is a plus.
